Safest way to the top of Skandagiri (Kalwarbetta)

Skandagiri, also known as Kalavaarahalli Betta or Kalwarbetta is a peak just 75kms away from Bangalore. It has gained cult status among Bangaloreans because of its proximity and the promise of going literally above the clouds.

Commonly, people go for moonlight treks and try to reach the summit (1424m) early so that they can catch the sunrise. There are a couple of routes up the hill. The guides usually take people up a treacherous and steep route starting from the West of the hill. This should be avoided especially in the rainy season when it can get slippery. An alternative, longer but safer route approaching from the North side of the hill is shown in the map above.
